President's Message

As the new President of SOHL, I would like to welcome everyone (New and Alumni) to the 2018-19 season. Our goal is to have a fun, safe season both on and off the ice. My personal undertaking is to carry the message to please respect others as comrades and their ability to play the game of hockey.

I would like to thank Gil Jeanson for his great work and accomplishments as President for the past 4 years. Gil has been playing in the SOHL for 14 years and since day one, has generously dedicated many hours of his time to the league and its members. Thank you Gilly!

This year, we have 6 players not returning: Bob Shaver, Ken Gunther, Anders Balkaran, Wayne Sawatzky, Harold Homuth and Kevin Gibson. Thank you gentlemen for being part of our league and remember, "once a member ... always a member" so stop by and say hello when you can.

With these players not returning, I would like to welcome back 3 Alumni players; Rod Brecht, Paul Casciano and Daryl Popoff. I would also like to welcome 5 New Players: Mark Lavich, Darren Yeryk, Ryan Gaudet, Rod Whitfield and Mark Johnson.

Also, congratulations to the following 2 Award Winners from last season:

Terry Pottinger Award Recipient: Don Woodrow. "Awarded annually to the person who most represents what our League Encompasses (Good Sportsmanship and Comraderie) - Voted by all Members of the League".

Don started playing in the SOHL in 1996 as a player and then in 2004 became Co-Captain of the Gators Hockey Team. Don is a member of SOHL Executive and continues to volunteer his time for the good of the league.

President's Award Recipient: Vinnie D'Angiolo. "Awarded annually to an active or retired member(s) of the league. This award is granted to an individual(s) who has shown enthusiasm throughout the season, and has taken on tasks voluntarily".

Vinnie started playing in the SOHL in 1998 as a player and then agreed to take on the roll as President from 2007 to 2014. With his many endeavors, Vinnie can most certainly be proud of inspiring the growth of our league from 6 teams to 8.

This is our league gentlemen so please remember that sportsmanship, camaraderie and respect is what it takes to have "fun" in our Southdale Oldtimers Hockey League. Let's have a great season!

Regards,
Bill Wrublowsky
